Therapeutic Supports

  • General Program Description

Therapeutic Supports is a counselling based program that works directly with service users to improve wellbeing, coping, and program specific goals using counselling as the means to develop relationships, support service users, and make linkages to other service providers.

The length and focus of the counselling are determined by the specific program being accessed.

ATTACH

 

ATTACH is a family counselling program.

The family unit works with the therapist to establish goals and areas of focus. The overarching goal of ATTACH is to support families and strengthen the family unit holistically.

ATTACH has 4 Areas of Focus including:

  • Promoting Safe and Secure Child-Family Attachment Relationships
  • Improving Emotional and Self-Regulation
  • Addressing Trauma and Attachment Histories
  • Circles of Security: Supporting Cultural, Kinship and Community Connections
  • How To Access The Program

Families are referred to ATTACH by Child and Family Wellbeing Social Workers. Referral offices currently include:

  • Sydney
  • North Sydney
  • Glace Bay
  • Port Hawkesbury
  • Antigonish
  • New Glasgow
  • Guysborough
  • Dartmouth (Garland Ave)
  • Lunenberg
  • Program Locations

The program is offered virtually and in-person depending on location. Service is provided for families referred from the designated offices.

Collaborative Sites

Family Service Nova Scotia provides counselling in collaboration with Community Partners. Services offered and referral processes are determined by the Community Partner. Family Service currently offers service in partnership with Wagmatcook First Nation.

Employee Assistance Program

Counselling Service is provided to employees of organizations and companies who have EAP contracts with Family Service Nova Scotia. If your employer offers EAP through Family Service Nova Scotia, contact us at 1-866-330-5952.

Employment Support/Income Assistance

Counselling is offered to individuals referred to Family Service Nova Scotia by their Employment Support or Income Assistance worker from Cape Breton, Antigonish, Guysborough and Pictou Counties.

Family Connections

Counselling is offered to expectant parents referred to Family Service Nova Scotia by Child and Family Well-Being.

Families Plus Counseling

When requested by the family and the Families Plus Worker, counselling is offered to family members involved with Family Service Nova Scotia’s Families Plus program.

Let’s Care Collective

Members of the Let’s Care Collective are welcome to contact Family Service Nova Scotia to access counselling services. If you are a member of the Let’s Care Collective and are interesting in counselling with Family Service Nova Scotia, contact us at 1-866-330-5952.

Strengthening Fathers Individual Therapy

Counselling is offered to male identifying caregivers who are caring for or have visits with a child 16 years old or younger and have been involved in an incident of intimate partner violence. 

Referrals must come from a community partner. 

Victim’s Services

Individuals in receipt of funding through the Provincial Victim Services Program may choose to receive counselling through Family Service Nova Scotia. If you have an award through the Victim Services Program and are interesting in counselling with us, please call 1-866-330-5952.
