Families Plus

  • Program Description

  • Families Plus is a Tier 3, home-based family preservation program that works intensively with families connected to the Department of Opportunities and Social Development.
  • It’s a flexible and highly individualized, long-term intervention for families experiencing complex situations and dynamics.
  • The program is grounded in intentional, reflective clinical practice and it is delivered by Clinical Interventionists who hold an MSW or BSW and have a minimum of five years’ experience.
  • A collaborative program working closely with workers from the Department of Opportunities and Social Development and other community partners and/or services.
  • A voluntary service consisting of three periods:
    1. Stabilization Period: Week 1-8 @ 4-5 sessions per week
    2. Strengthening Period: Weeks 8-28 @ 1-3 sessions per week
    3. Resiliency Period: Weeks 28-36 @ 1-2 sessions per month
  • Offers a 24/7 support line to families connected to the program.

Families Plus is offered in many communities in Nova Scotia. Referrals are accepted from the following locations:

  • An African Nova Scotian site is available in the Central region
  • Antigonish
  • Bridgewater
  • Central Region
  • Kentville
  • New Glasgow
  • Sydney
  • Truro

Families Plus service is initiated through a direct referral from a Department of Opportunities and Social Development Services worker.
